years have become punctuated not as they were as a kid by holidays and school years, but by events signifying seasons.
the year is broken up, by baseball season, elk season, christmas tree hunting, canning time and others. this week we hit one of those tic marks on the calendar. tomorrow is daylight savings time and that means it’s time to start planting if we want to be able to tic the “late summer harvest” mark on the calendar (it’s right before the cyclocross season / mary’s birthday tic marks).
the weather is still too cold and will remain un-predictable for a couple of months so seeds must be sown inside. they’ve sprouted now, will go in the cold frame soon and another of the year’s tics will be behind us.
there is a comfort in the rhythm of the seasons.
