Meet Dave. A builder, luxury hotel developer, and a local resident, Dave came to Belize in the 1989. Dave started off in citrus farming but first dipped his toes into the resort business in 1995, when he started Caves Branch Jungle Lodge and Adventure Camp with his partner Ian Anderson. Caves Branch focused on adventure tourism and has been an instant and continued success.

In 2003, Dave expanded his resort interests by building Almond Beach Resort in Hopkins, Belize. Almond Beach Resort was located adjacent to The Lodge at Jaguar Reef and the two properties, owned by separate entities were managed by The Lodge at Jaguar Reef. In 2012, on a portion of land beside his family’s orange farm on the Hummingbird Highway, Dave developed and built one of Belize’s top-rated resorts, The Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge. Sleeping Giant started out with just 7 rooms and has grown now to 31 rooms.

In 2012, The Belize Collection was formed with the intention of being able to provide a variety of travel experiences in various destinations within Belize. Two years later, after the successful launch of The Sleeping Giant, The Belize Collection took over the ownership of The Lodge at Jaguar Reef in Hopkins, and transformed it into the award-winning, luxury resort that it is today. The Belize Collection has since expanded into Placencia and is actively looking for a location on Ambergris Caye with goal of becoming the largest private hotel chain in Belize.

As part of this continuous expansion, The Belize Collection team has opened the surrounding lands of both Jaguar Reef and Sleeping Giant to include luxury residences. Work began onthese property developments in 2019 and it is exciting to see the fast-moving progress andrealization of this dream in the making.
